(Older answer is overwritten)Hi Jeremy, probably about half or those hits are by search engines and spam robots, I will have to take care of not counting this activity, it shouldn't be too tough.
Number of question views shown The counter works per-session, and therefore does count anonymous users. Limiting the counting to logged in users IMO would not be right, because there is the a considerable number of absolute unique visits per session. Robots are filtered out. Anonymous viewers are also counted.people who look at the site (some - regularly) but do not log in.
edit 1: also - after a page is modified (by changing anything on the page - including adding a comment) - a new visit by someone who saw the previous version will also be counted again.
Once you log in your anonymous session is copied over into your authenticated session, so the views will not be double-counted across the log-in event.
edit 2 (June 18 2010) Hopefully this problem is largely fixed now - there is a pattern matching in place that recognizes most known robots.
